Boer War

Frederick Lawrence Baker –  Sargent 10th Royal Hussars

Harry Baker –  Squadron Quarter-Master Sergeant 10th Royal Hussars

Frederick died July 7th 1898, age 28.

We don’t know much about Frederick’s life before he served. He died at Bulford Camp, Salisbury.

Frederick was one of seven children and the family lived on Morton Terrace. His father and mother, John and Harriet are also buried in the same plot.

John was a commercial draper.

Harry died 20th April 1902, age 34.

A Gainsborough News report says that he died from the effects of wounds. His service record says he was wounded on the 26th March 1900 at Sannah’s Post near Bloemfontein in South Africa. There are more details about the battle here.

One of their relatives, Harold I Baker, served during WWI in the 6th Lincolns. There’s more information about him here.
