Henry Dickenson Marshall

Henry was a partner in what became Marshall, & Sons company in Gainsborough. His father, William Marshall started the company and his eldest brother, James, was also a partner.

Henry was born in Manchester on the 5th May 1840. When he was small he moved to St. Petersburg, Russia. The late Nigel Marshall had several photos of Henry from this time.

Henry was keen on technical education, this later became the Marshalls Technical School. Classes included Painting and Drawing, French and Wood-Carving.

He was also a councillor for the County Council, a Justice of the Peace and was involved with the Royal Agricultural Society and the Agricultural Engineer’s Association.

He died aged 66 on March 8th 1906 and his buried with his wife, Mary Ann who died in January 1907.

The headstone was restored by Retford Memorials.
